Eligibility & Expectations

The IGNITE Athlete Development Program will operate under the following standards and expectations:

Athlete Eligibility Criteria

Athletes who meet all of the following criteria below:

  1. Are registered members and in good standing with their Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) or National Sport Organization (NSO)
  2. Are between 14 – 17 years old at the beginning of the program (to come in effect Sept. 2017)
  3. Have achieved participation one or more of the following in the past 18 months: (to come in effect Sept. 2017)BC Summer or Winter Games
    • Provincial Championships or National Championships
    • Team BC Program
    • NextGen Program
    • National Team Program
  4. Athlete Eligibility Notes:
    1. Para-Athletes are welcome to apply into the program in accordance with the same eligibility criteria listed above.
      • Para-Athletes must meet with and get the approval of the IGNITE Coaches prior to submitting an application, pending the IGNITE program can confidently support the individual athlete in all training areas

Operation of the Program

  1. Training sessions
    • 2-3 training sessions will be held per week
    • 60-90 minutes in duration
    • Minimum 3 training hours per week
    • Specific days, times and program length will vary by location
  2. Program duration
    • The same cohort of athletes must participate through the time period shown, no mid-program intakes.
  3. Attendance
    • Athletes should endeavor to commit to an 80% attendance rate, acknowledging that some conflicts are inevitable.

Application process

  1. Athletes must meet the eligibility criteria in order to submit an application
  2. All new applicants must submit an application to be admitted into the IGNITE Program by the deadline shown
  3. Returning applicants must re-apply through the IGNITE Program Coordinator for all subsequent program sessions, in order to ensure the athlete continues to meet all eligibility criteria and program expectations.

Sport Education

  1. Athletes will also be introduced to a high performance lifestyle through sport performance seminars (i.e. nutrition, mental training, physiology, etc.) several times (ie.3-5) throughout the program.
  2. These sport education seminars may be delivered in conjunction with pre-existing seminars delivered by Canadian Sport Institute or PacificSport.

IGNITE Centre - North Island- Campbell River

This centre supplies a high performance training hub for motivated athletes from Campbell River, the Comox Valley and surrounding areas.  Carihi Secondary School provides top class facilities in their newly renovated mezzanine and gymnasium.  With support from local sponsors NI IGNITE athletes also receive complimentary access to the Willow Point Sportsplex and Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex.  Along with this they receive discounts at Inter-Sport and special athlete SportHealth services at FYI Doctors, Active Living & Epic Physiotherapy.  This program runs over three phases – Fall/Winter, Winter/Spring and summer.  NI IGNITE has some of the areas most experienced and innovative coaches that all take pride in creating a high performance culture.  PSVI Bursaries are available for all successful applicants.  Registration deadline is August 31st.  For more details how to apply and the schedule see North Island IGNITE
