PacificSport Vancouver Island invites you to come and show your support as local Olympic and Paralympic athletes prepare for the 2012 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games opening in London later this summer. Athletes from around the Island will be honored at a ceremony that recognizes their accomplishments by giving them an official “send-off” to London. A number of former Olympians and Paralympians will be on hand to join us in celebrating our champions.

London bound athletes attending and representing various island communities include:

• Tommy Gossland, Nanaimo, swimming
• Tony Theriault, Nanaimo, adapted rowing
• Trevor Hirschfield, Parksville, wheelchair rugby
• Michelle Stilwell, Parksville, wheelchair athletics
• Cam Levins, Comox Valley, athletics
• Mike Mason, Nanoose Bay, athletics
• Richard Peter, Duncan, wheelchair basketball

Of the six lifting-off to the games, five are Olympic Games veterans. Peter (4), Stilwell (2), Theriault (1), Hirschfield (1) and Mason (1)

Onsite public events will include:

• coloring area for kids
• athlete autograph area
• large Canadian flags that the public is invited to sign and will be sent to London with the athletes
