Sport Leader Job Description
Role and Responsibilities
To create a safe, fun environment where children can develop fundamental movement skills and sport skills that will allow them to be physically active for life.
*Working as part of a team, deliver a comprehensive after school sport/ physical activity program based on Canadian Sport for Life Ideals for 16 elementary school aged children for up to 15 schools in the Nanaimo area.
*Work in consultation with PacificSport program coordinator to select and facilitate activities aimed in achieving the desired outcomes.
*Facilitate a variety of physical activities aimed at engaging students in fun, recreational and life-long learning objectives.
*Arrive prepared with an activity plan for the each day.
*Supervise children attending the program and promote safety and respect amongst participants.
*Ensure a friendly and supportive atmosphere is maintained by developing appropriate strategies to support children in managing their behavior.
*Respond to the individual needs of the children and establish stable and consistent relationships with each child and their family/ caregivers.
*Liaise sensitively with parents on matters concerning their children while maintaining confidentiality.
*Ensure that the health and safety needs of the children are met and all health and safety issues are dealt with immediately and appropriately.
Qualifications and Requirements
*Preferred post-secondary education in Elementary Education, Child & Youth Care, Physical Education and or Recreation.
*Knowledge of the Canada Sport for Life: LTAD model an asset
*Supervisory/ Leadership experience and asset.
*Program planning and facilitation experience an asset
* Ability to work as a team member in a dynamic, complex environment and organize time and workload effectively.
*Ability to follow and meet required deadlines and reporting.
*Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of staff, the public and program participants while maintaining objectivity
*Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, community agencies and the public.
*Ability to exercise independence of judgement and carry out responsibilities with minimum direction.
*Demonstrated problem solving abilities.
*Class 5 Drivers license and asset
*Current vulnerable sector screening (Police Information Check)

*NCCP Fundamental Movement Skills
* In-service staff training.
*High energy activity leader, self motivating and enthusiastic
*Be creative and innovative in the time spent with children.
*Foster self-esteem, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills in the children.
*Create an atmosphere of safety, belonging and positive development for each child.
*Provide positive role-modeling for child participants and volunteers to the program.
